Day 23

I didn't work out today because I went to a funeral.  We said "see ya later" to a wonderful woman who was very loving.  She always had a big smile and hug for me any time I saw her.  She will be missed.  I really wish I had my Zigo Leader then we could bike to church.  I'd love to add biking to church every morning to my schedule.  I've been very busy getting my son's birthday party ready.  We are recycling LOTS of things since we spent our whole budget for his party on a used inflatable slide.  It's a good investment since the kids love it and use it nearly every day.  I'll get back to my work outs again, I just need to figure out when and where and how.  Things change with someone else home all day.

Day 22--Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day.  A day when we remember those who have fallen in the fight to protect us.  Our family lost a close friend in 2002.  Daniel Aaron Romero and the men he was with were murdered by terrorists who booby trapped a cash of missals. It was awful, they had to DNA test every piece to make sure the right pieces went to the right families, and one family didn't even have anything to bury.  That is the horror of war and that is how much the terrorists hate us.  That is why we can't just leave. That is why we must have brave men and women willing to lay down their lives, willing to die in the most horrific ways, to protect us.  He was my brother's best friend, my best friends older brother, our dear friends' son, the woman who cared for me and my brother while our parents worked to provide for us. We don't need a special day to remember him, we feel the hole in our lives and see the pain our dear friends' live with daily.  It's nice to have other's remember him and the others that have fallen.  So today we celebrate with our dear friends and remember the man that gave his all to protect us.

Day 19

Back on track!  I did my regular work out today.  I did four 1 1/2 minute jogging intervals and biked for 26 minutes.  I managed to go .1 mile for every interval.  I'm proud of myself for slowly increasing my endurance.  I know I just need to keep pushing myself.  I've looked up some triathlons in the area for the end of the season and there are a few I might try to get into.  It really depends on if I can get the Zigo Leader or not.  As long as we are stuck in doors 30 minutes is pretty much the most my kids can handle before I'm needing to get off the bike and chase them down or separate them!  My Mom is officially on Summer Vacation so that will help as well.  I hope to get into the habit of training first thing in the morning while it is still cool out.  The summer highs can reach into the 100's so there is no way I'm going out in the afternoon!

I wrote myself a note on the bathroom mirror as to some short term goals.  First off, I only have one pair of jeans left in the size I'm wearing now, and I wore a hole in one of the knees.  I don't want to buy another pair of jeans in this size.  I have some jeans in the next size down, so I'm hoping that I can fit into the next size down before my current jeans end up in the trash.  I also found an amazing deal on craigslist for small jump and slide inflatable for my son's birthday.  I spent almost my whole party budget on it, but the kids love it and it will provide lots of exercise for them this summer.  Anyway the weight limit on it is 250lbs and my son keeps begging me to go on it with them.  So I need to loose the weight of my children so I can play on the "jumpy castle" with them.  Having shorter term goals is helping me stay focused and training.

I have also found that Extra's dessert delights are helpful in keeping me from snacking at night.  Night time is when I get my worst cravings and end up snacking the most as well, so my wonderful husband has kept me in supply of mint chocolate chip and strawberry shortcake gum:)  He even went out at 9:30 last night to buy some just so I wouldn't snack on anything.  It is wonderful to have such great support:)

Does anyone have any tips for staying hydrated?  I've been trying to drink a G2 everyday, but let's face it, that is getting expensive.  Can I make my own for less?  Any ideas?

Keep posted tomorrow as I'm going to celebrate my 20th day of training with a giveaway!!!

Day 18

I didn't do a traditional work out today or yesterday.  I helped Mom clean her class room yesterday, and today I did yard work for two hours.  I'm going to try really hard to get a good workout tomorrow.  I hope to get most of my son's birthday party dealt with as well.

My husband and I talked it over and decided that it's better if the kids and I don't go on the trip with my parents.  It would be really stressful on all of us.  I do look forward to getting out and about with the Zigo if I ever get it.  I really do dream of getting in some awesome bike and jogging training sessions.  Right now I can only do one at a time with the kids, and well the biking thing isn't happening as the trailer is, well, it's not.

I hope to run a giveaway starting this weekend!  Get ready to win $20 in Amazon gift cards!!  WOOT!!

Day 17

My official weight today is 238.6!  Yay me!!  I'm going to keep it short for now because I'm going to help my mom clean her class room for the summer.  Hopefully I'll still have time for my work out, but cleaning may be my work out for today.

I was just thinking that we should go to the zoo this weekend.  My son earned a trip a while ago, but we haven't been able to go for different reasons (weather, other plans, etc.) Anyway it would be so cool to take the Zigo if we had it:)  It will be a great place to show it off, as is the museum next door:)

Day 16

Today is a stormy day here on the front range.  I was able to do three one and a half minute intervals today, than two one minute intervals and a 30 second interval!  I'm glad that I could go a little longer today. I've been really tired lately and terribly thirsty. I'm adding a bottle of G2 to what I drink everyday and I hope that helps.  I'm going to weigh myself after nap, but I suspect that with cupcake weekend I haven't lost any weight and might have gained.  Every week that I add another two minutes feels like forever!  I'll be so happy when I can jog for long periods of time because that will mean I'm getting fit.  I know this is a long journey, but I'm excited to be on it.  I hope to do my first Triathlon sprint this fall or next spring.  It all depends on how I'm doing in my training.  If I get the Zigo I'm sure it will help speed things along:)

I'm planning to have a giveaway here on my blog soon.  I just need to earn some more swagbucks to buy another amazon gift card and then I'll have $20 to give away!  I really want to get Zigo's name out there and get myself and them some more followers and the best way to do that is to give stuff away!!

Monday, May 23, 2011

Day 15

This week I'm supposed to jog for six minutes.  I'm happy to say that I did all six minutes.  I actually did 8 because I kept trying to do two minutes in a row, but each one minute interval was all I could handle today!  I don't know if it's just the two days off, or cleaning the house before I worked out, but I just couldn't go any longer than a minute.  I only did ten minutes on the bike.  The kids were really not interested in being in the basement today.  The weather outside was beautiful today so I have the windows open. I was just thinking that perhaps it wouldn't rain again today, but then I looked to the west and it is grey, nasty, and heading this way!

I really hope we get things worked out with Zigo so we can take the Zigo Leader 2X with us on vacation.  I'm afraid I won't do any of my work outs if I don't have it.  My Dad is really concerned about space as well.  It is going to be a tight fit with 6 people in the RV.  I can't worry too much about it right now, because I need to concentrate on my son's birthday party:)

Sunday, May 22, 2011

Day 14

Again, no work out today because of cupcakes.  They are quite consuming!  The good news is that I'm done with them for the rest of the summer and won't start again until September.

Today my parents invited my family to join them on a vacation to visit my extended family.  My hubby can't go because he is starting his hold over job.  This is a job that has potential, but will hold us over until something better comes along, unless this one gets better money wise REALLY quickly!  Anyway, it's going to be in the RV.  I was thinking how cool it would be if I got the Zigo in time, that I could ride around the RV parks and the other places we stay to not only get my work outs in, but also to get Zigo some publicity.  It sure would be nice to put the kids in the Zigo and go for a ride to get the kinks out after being cooped up in the RV all day.

I already talked to my husband and he said if I sent him texts he would post it for me so I can keep up with the blog as well!  It's a lot of ifs, and lot to do before we leave, so I'm just concentrating on one thing at a time.

I am feeling really tired and run down.  I'm thinking it would have been better if I had gotten up and worked out rather than having that extra 30 minutes of sleep.  It's really a change in my whole life style. I hope I can keep it up during vacation.

Day 13

I didn't work out today.  It's cupcake weekend, so I was busy grocery shopping and mixing batters.  I was really wishing we had our Zigo this morning when we wanted to see the hot air balloons in the next town over. It would have been maybe a two or three mile ride and we would have been able to not worry about parking and shuttles and all the other headaches!  Maybe we'll be lucky enough next year:)

Day 12

I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to post this yesterday.  We had some internet problems and it was a busy night!
I am proud to report that yesterday I biked 12 miles and jogged for 5 minutes.  I knew that my husband and I were going on a date (he won tickets to a concert) so I wanted to do extra work since we were going to eat out!

Every weekend for a while is going to be a challenge food wise.  This weekend is cupcake weekend which means baking around a hundred cupcakes for my church. It's always hard not to taste test to make sure things are tasting awesome for the teens.  Then I have to get ready for my son's birthday party.

I'm finding that as I take care of myself and blog that I'm making better choices about food and what I do. It feels really good to know that I'm making real changes in my life.

Day 11

I am exhausted today.  I weighed myself again, and I think I must have been retaining water yesterday.  This morning I was 235.6.  I am very happy that all my hard work is showing results.  I think we are going to venture out in the wet today.  It's a light drizzle on and off and is supposed to be clearing as the day goes on, so we are going to go to the library.  Yesterday sure was an exciting day.  Zigo contacted me, and my husband won a radio contest to go to a concert tomorrow night! The library is about a half a mile away so it will be a mile of waking there and back.  I think that will be my work out for today.  If I'm feeling up to it, perhaps I'll spend some time on the bike.  It's nice that my son asks me to go exercise every day.  He is a real motivator for me.

It's a slow change, but I'm noticing that I'm happier with myself everyday.  I'm taking better care of myself. My husband has always been an amazing support to me.  He thinks I'm beautiful no matter what size I am, but it was so hard to believe him.  I believe him a little more every day.  Just a tip out there to anyone who needs a major lift.  I suggest getting a major new hair cut.  Go to nicer salon and ask them what they think would really compliment your face.  I did this on Mother's Day and I'm so glad I did!  My husband keeps gushing about how beautiful I am (even more than before) and I like the way I look as well.  I don't need to look in a mirror to remember how I look because my hair is MUCH shorter than before, so all I need to do is run my hand through my hair and it makes me remember how good I look.  I always wore my hair in a pony tail before, and I've gotten my hair cut shorter before, but this was about an inch shorter than I've cut it before.  It's really nice and I plan on taking care of myself and taking care of this style.

Update: I did walk almost to the library.  Right next door is a thrift store and I stopped in to see what they had.  They had a crawl through tunnel for a buck, so I walked back home to get some money:)  My Dad was home and watched the kids while they ate lunch. He asked me to use his truck so I would be home more quickly.  I look forward to having a good bike and I can tell him that it takes the same amount of time to bike as drive once you take into account lights, traffic and parking!

Day 10 continued

Being contacted by Zigo really gave me a lift today!  I biked 6 miles today and jogged .3miles at 4mph in three intervals.  I may not be loosing weight or shrinking right now, but I'm feeling stronger and healthier.  I'm taking care of myself and I'm proud of that.

Today would have been a perfect day to go for a bike/jog with a Zigo Leader 2X today.  It's cool enough to be comfortable working hard and if the kids are bundled up, they would be comfortable as well. Colorado is such a great state because you can really make it outside most days. I look forward to using the Zigo leader as much as possible in all sorts of weather!

Day 10

Today didn't start out so well. I have a  killer headache, the weather is supposed to be cold and rainy for the rest of the week and to top it all off, I actually gained weight this week. The official weight for this week is 241.6.  But then the most amazing and wonderful thing happened!

I checked my blog and I was contacted by Michael from Zigo and they want to work with me to try to get our family a Zigo Leader 2X!!!  I am beyond excited as I thought owning this amazing bike was going to be a dream that would take years to obtain.  What a wonderful company to take a interest in me and my goal of training for a triathlon with my kids! Not only will it help with my training, but it will help make ends meet by us using the car less and therefor use less gas, and make having only one car a bit easier to deal with! This news has totally motivated me to get my rear in gear and work out today, even though I was seriously considering not working out because of my headache.

I'm trying hard not to focus on the weight gain, but rather the fact that I am getting healthier and my children are taking notice as well.  My son is using talking more about making healthy choices and tells me he is going to exercise at least once a day before he runs around like a crazy man:)

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Day 9

Today I didn't even think about it, I just went down stairs and worked out!  I've bumped up the jogging to 4 minutes like the training guide says.  It doesn't seem like a lot, but it is really tough that last little bit!  Yesterday I was able to do two 2 minutes intervals, but today I did four 1 minute intervals at 4mph.  I also did pretty much all my cardio on the bike.  I biked 5.3 miles and ran a total of .2!  I'm very proud of myself!  The kids also found a way to entertain themselves (sliding down the stairs on their tummies feet first) which lasted quite a while allowing me to work out for a total of about 40 minutes.  I feel much better!  I still can't quite balance everything.  It seems like I can't quite do everything every day.  Yesterday we didn't get to my son's school work (he's just 3 so it's not like it's a huge deal if he misses it!) Lately we haven't been making it out to play at the children's museum or a park or anything.  This whole week is supposed to be rainy and cold, so I don't think working out outside is going to be a real option.  Some how I'll find a way to get it all done.  It sure would be nice to have that Zigo to go to the stores and just workout outside even if it is cooler or drizzly.

The kids also tried to do some push ups with me today and my son spent a few minutes walking (slowly) on the treadmill, while I did my leg lifts and sit ups and such.  My little prince really seems to be taking to this thing called exercise!

Monday, May 16, 2011

Day 8

Remember how I said I didn't taste test my way into trouble?  Well I was wrong. I got on the scale this morning and I've gained weight.  It's hard to get myself to go work out when it doesn't seem to make a difference.  There is so much to do today as well.

My Big Little Prince just asked me to go down stairs to exercise, so I guess here I go!

I DID IT!!!!

21 minutes of cardio, 4 minutes of jogging (two 2 minute sections), plus some sit ups, push ups and leg lifts for a total of 30 minutes.

I'm proud of myself!  Thanks little man for getting me down stairs:)  I guess it's already starting to sink in:)

I have no idea how we are going to afford the Zigo, but I feel like we really need it in order to really train. This summer I can train without the kids as my Mom is home from work.  I'll work on getting up early before it gets too hot:)  I have a few more weeks before Mom is out of work.

I like that the kids are starting to ask to walk on the treadmill while I'm on the bike. I hope that they will do some running with me. I need to get my kiddos signed up for things this summer, but I'm running out of money for this month.  My little man's birthday is at the start of June and I have a lot to do/buy/make for his birthday.

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Day 7

Today was a day of rest.  I really needed it.  I will be ready to go tomorrow!  I talked over one of my biggest fears with my hubby Friday night, and it really helped.  He told me that he is already planning my birthday which is really exciting for me:) It's nice to know he is putting so much thought into it.  I'm ready to kick butt tomorrow!

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Day 6

No workout today....I was baking graduation cakes.  I did manage not to taste test my way into trouble though, at least today, last night was a different story:)  Anyway, I'm glad these cakes are over! Perhaps I'll get a work out in tomorrow.  Oh I did some research and found an awesome bike. It's called the Zigo Leader.  I TOTALLY want this for my training. It really would solve so many problems.  The only problem is the price...ouch!  Anyway here is a link to their website.

http://www.myzigo.com/

There are so very many things to love about this bike, the kids are up front, it turns into a jogging stroller, and a regular stroller and it's own bike.  I could ride this to the nearby lake, do my bike training, turn it into a jogger and do my running, then turn it back into a bike and ride home.  Perfect!  I guess I get to start saving my pennies;)

Friday, May 13, 2011

Day 5

Today I walked a mile to gymnastics class and back for a total of two miles.  My pace was pretty good for walking along a street which means lots of stop lights.  I also ran for at least two minutes I think. I didn't have my phone on me so I could time myself, but I was pushing to finish the big block before our house which is the equivalent of three regular blocks.  I'll have to look up how far it is on google maps.

I tried out the bike with the trailer, but I hate it.  It is really heavy and hard to steer. I can't see the kids or the trailer to keep them on the side walk.  It is the most horrible invention ever!  I'm going to have to find another solution to my biking needs, one where I can at least see the kids. I can't imagine going on an hour bike ride and not being able to keep an eye on them. Plus I'm sure they don't want to be looking at my backside the whole time either!

My husband says that I carry myself better. He likes the way I'm holding and moving my body.  I don't know what I'm doing different, but I do know that I feel better about myself.  I'm proud of myself for taking care of my body and showing my kids how to make healthier choices.

It's time for nap, so I need to go, but I'll post again later.

My son is hanging on my arm telling me that I need to brush my teeth before nap so I don't get cavities because cavities because they hurt "really a lot!"  He is such a caring child!

Sigh.....I'm back much sooner than I thought, the nap battle has begun so I'll blog while I wait for them to be quiet.

This weekend is going to be my first real challenge. I am baking a graduation cake. I bake as a hobby, and I need to figure out how I'm going to keep my hobby and not let myself taste test into trouble.  I want to try to make a few recipes that are actually rather healthy, but taste awesome as well. I'm also working up the guts to blog about my fears of loosing weight. It's hard to not look at this as a journey with an end, but that I'm making life style changes. I want my family to be active. I want us to be healthy. Not just me but my husband and kids as well. I want to be able to go for a hike on a Saturday or Sunday when we have nothing planned. I want us to go for bike rides for fun, but also as a form of transportation.  There is no reason why I shouldn't feel confident about riding to the stores we frequent or even the stores that are in the next town over.  I want this life, but it is kinda scary as well.

I'm going to see what options are out there for riding with the kids....I hope there are some real options.

Thursday, May 12, 2011

Day 4

Today it is still raining and drizzly so I was banished to the basement for another day. I'm very lucky to have access to a treadmill and stationary bike where my kids can play, so I am thankful that it is an option. I again made it 20 minutes instead of the whole 30 minutes, but we had a play date scheduled and I had to take a shower before we went because I was sweating like crazy today!  I walked at a 3mph pace the whole time except for the 1 1/2 minute at 3.7mph in the middle and another 1 1/2 minutes at the end.  I really pushed myself today and I feel good now, but I was pushing myself for every minute.  The natives are restless so I better get going, I'll try to write more tonight.  I've been thinking a lot about how I got where I am and my fears about loosing weight.

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Day 3

Today is rainy.  I was hoping to go for a walk outside today, but not in this weather! So we headed down to the basement to use the treadmill and bike.  I jogged at 3.5mph for my 2 minutes.  That was seriously tough! The kids didn't last the whole 30 minutes.  I made it 10 total on the treadmill and 6 on the bike before the kids had enough and went upstairs on me!  Why is it that they can sit and watch t.v. without moving for 30minutes upstairs, but when I need them to stay in the basement while I workout, they don't want anything to do with it? I sure can be frustrating, and I'm thinking that is why we are going to need to take it outside as often as possible!  Good thing we live in Colorado where the weather is usually pretty nice.

I have to say that Biggest Looser is my inspiration right now.  I can't wait to look like Hannah!  Her stats are so similar to mine that I really identify with her.  Seeing Hannah's new body makes me want my new body.  I wonder how much they actually work out a week? I wonder if I could do this in 6 months instead of a year? I guess the most important thing is to get healthy rather than loose a certain number of pounds.

I really want to get healthier before my hubby and I decide we are ready for more kids.  It would be nice to have a healthy pregnancy.  As far as I know I don't have any major health problems.  I have borderline high blood pressure and I'm probably borderline for diabetes. My doctor kept a close eye on my blood pressure in both pregnancies, but hasn't said anything the times I've seen him since.  I didn't get gestational diabetes, but I did fail the one hour test on my last pregnancy.

So I figured that I needed to post a "before" picture. I am 240.4 lbs according to the scale tonight as well.

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Day 2

So today I managed my whole 30 minutes of cardio!  Yay me!  The two minutes of jogging were tough, but I pushed through.  The kids are not going to last long with staying indoors so I'm going to have to venture outside soon.  It's supposed to be rainy tomorrow, so I suppose we will have one more inside day.  We'll see.  I'm hoping that I can do this in a year, that seems like an okay goal, not too much at a time.  It sure would be nice to feel like I could just hop on a bike with the kids and ride to the stores we frequent.  I've walked to them but it does take such a long time.  With gas being as expensive as it is I hate using our car to run to the store for something I need.  Lately I've been sending my hubby when he gets home because he can use his motorcycle, but that takes his time away with the kids.  I dream of all the cool things we can do as a family when I am fit.  I've always loved the water and would love to spend more time around it.  I think of canoeing and rafting. What fun to go for a hike with our extended family instead of staying in the house for a visit.  I would love to some day be able to afford to take riding lessons as well....I wouldn't have to worry about being too big to ride!  So today I give myself a gold star!  Gotta run before the kiddos get into a fight!  TTFN!

Monday, May 9, 2011

Day 1 continued

Two minutes is FOREVER!  I thought, it's just two minutes, I can do that...but DANG....I'm really out of shape!  It seems impossible that I will ever be able to run a 5k.  I can tell I'm going to run into some problems.  Number one...walking on a treadmill is BORING.  The kids had enough after about 15 minutes too.  So today I walked for 3 minutes, ran my 2 minutes and then was on the bike for 10 minutes.  I think we will head outside tomorrow for sure.  I picked up a used bike trailer so we will try it out.  There is a lake about a mile away that has a mile trail around it so I'd like to start using that to train.  I'm kinda scared about the first time though...what if something breaks or worse...what if I can't make it.  Getting fit is hard work...but it's worth it....right? Someone? Anyone?  The other major challenge for me is going to be staying hydrated. I just forget to drink until I'm parched.  The training guide says to work out just every other day, but I think I'm going to try for every day.  I'll just repeat the day before.  So we'll see how tomorrow goes:)

Day 1

According to the couch to 5k training schedule I need to walk for 28min today and run for 2min.  I can totally do this.  It's just trying to keep the kids occupied for 30 minutes. While the weather seems to be pretty nice, we may have to keep it indoors today as my little Prince was coughing all night.   Why is it that when Mommy decides to start taking care of herself, something happens to the kids?  Seriously, I tried everything for the poor little guy, even a dose of his cough medicine with codine, and he STILL was coughing all night long.  I've been talking a lot about making healthy choices with my kids.  I want them to be thinking about those healthy choices even if I'm setting a bad example.  So yesterday my kids gave me two movie sized bags of M&M's for Mother's day.  I ate them both while chatting with my Mom and Sister-in-Law (who will from now on just be called my Sister, because the in-law part makes it sound like she isn't really part of the family!) Anyway, when we went to Church I had to use the restroom due to my poor choices. I took Little Prince with me because I knew he would need to use the facilities as well.  He asked why I needed to use the restroom and I told him because I ate too much junk food. He thinks about it and then informs me that "maybe that wasn't such a healthy choice!" We then talked about how next time he wants to get me chocolate that it is okay to get a little, but maybe he can get me a piece of fruit as well. He thinks about it again and says "Nahhh!" so I said, "well for next time" and he replies, "well, okay!"  I'm glad I have him thinking about what are healthy choices and what are not.  I hope to start leading a healthy life style to set a good example for my kids. I don't want them to be teased for being fat like my husband and I were.  So anyway....I'm off to the treadmill....and then, perhaps a nap;)

Introducing myself!

Hi!  My name is Angie and I'm going to keep a record of my journey of trying to get fit and lose weight while being a stay at home mom with two small children and on a budget.
So to start off I weigh 240lbs...my goal weight is 140.  I can not run.  I think what I can do is considered a jog, but let's face it, it's not pretty and I can only keep it up for a minute at best.  My goal is to train for a Triathlon sprint.  I love to swim, riding a bike sounds like fun, but the running part, well that sounds like pure torture to me!
I can't afford a gym membership and all my exercise must be done with my kids ages almost 4 and 2.  They need to do this with me for two reasons: First, I think it is important that they see Mommy making good life style choices and taking care of her body. Second, I can't afford to have someone else watch them while I work out.
Back to the plan...I'm not worried about the swimming part of the triathlon.  While I would LOVE to spend most of my training time in the pool, it's just not going to happen for the two reasons I listed above.  Those, and can you imagine trying to pull them along in a boat or something! Crazy! I also used to swim competitivly as a child and like so many other things, it comes back like riding a bike. So I'm left with doing a bulk of my training as running and biking.  I plan to use a very conservative training plan so that I don't hurt myself and I can stick to it.
So I guess I'll be using my sit and stand for the walking part and I need to figure out something for the bike part.  I am fortunate that I have acess to a treadmill and a stationary bike and may start out with those.  So wish me luck and join me as I'm sure it's going to be quite an adventure!
